Posted by: Karl Shuker on March 9th, 2016

When we think of sloths, we generally picture those famously sluggish, dog-sized, tree-dwelling beasts that spend much of their time hanging upside-down from branches in modern-day Central and South America. Millions of years ago, however, there were several additional, very different morphological types – of which the most famous and dramatic were the ground sloths.

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on March 8th, 2016

Large hairy man-beasts had been raiding human settlements in Oklahoma and Arkansas for some time, mostly stealing vegetables, but had also been stealing human children and eating them. The Loch Ness Monster, bigfoot and the yeti have long held a fascination for people the world over. Debates about their actual existence or what they might really be have continued for decades, if not centuries. Known also as cryptids, they have spawned a body of research known as cryptozoology.
