“Lookin’ Late” Bigfoot Conference and Festival

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on April 3rd, 2014

As any bigfooter knows, southeast Oklahoma is a hotbed of bigfoot activity. The terrain is rugged, mountainous, and perfect habitat for sasquatches. And, like so many other areas where bigfoots roam, the local humans have come to celebrate the big guys’ presence.

This April 18 and 19, there will be a public bigfoot festival in the Little River Valley located in the Kiamichi Mountains outside of the small town of Honobia. The conference organizers are doing two festivals a year now, one in spring and one in fall.

Snarly Yow

Here, a historic sign for the National Road enthusiastically proclaims South Mountain Summit What an Ideal Location for a Break! But it also includes a wonderfully unexpected caveat: Beware of the “Snarly Yow,” the sign advises just below a drawing of a rangy, wolf-like creature baying at a full moon. Kind of like: you know that really relaxing place we just told you about? well… hope you’re not scared of monsters…

Champ on Land?

Posted by: Katy Elizabeth on March 6th, 2014

20 years ago, dogs baking wildly woke Christine Hebert’s Marina on a foggy night. A new dock had recently been built at the Auer Family Boathouse, with a light that extended out into the water. Christine looked out to see what was alarming the dogs, thought someone might be taking a boat, and to her surprise she saw a large creature rise up out of the water right under the light.
