A Winged Thing of the UK

Posted by: Nick Redfern on January 2nd, 2013

The Mothman of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; Cornwall, England’s Owlman; the Houston Batman of Texas; the legendary Thunderbirds that populate Native American lore; and the flying woman of Vietnam: they all have one thing in common, namely that they are undeniably weird winged things that have no business surfing the skies of our planet. But, that doesn’t mean they’re not!

A Ghillie Suit Hoax?

Posted by: Nick Redfern on December 30th, 2012

“First there was the infamous ‘Gable film’ video that purported to show the Michigan Dogman in attack mode, and then we had the tragic case of the Montana man fatally struck by two vehicles while dressed in what he hoped looked like a Sasquatch costume. Both of these rather bad ideas had one thing in common – – the perpetrators wore ghillie suits.”

There’s a new article from me at Mysterious Universe that begins like this: “Beyond any shadow of a doubt, one of the leading seekers of strange creatures in the world today is Dr. Karl Shuker, who hails only a couple of miles from where I grew up in central England. But, Karl is not only […]

Dr. Karl Shuker, in a new post at his Shuker Nature blog, says: “Cryptozoologically-speaking, Scotland is world-famous for the Loch Ness monster, and also for its plethora of pantheresque and cougar-like mystery cats that allegedly roam its lonely moors and shadowy glens. However, these are not the only cryptids on record from this northernmost country […]

The Piltdown Man Controversy

Posted by: Nick Redfern on December 22nd, 2012

In a new post at Mysterious Universe, Micah Hanks begins… “It was indeed a scandal that shook the hallowed halls of the British Museum’s honorable geological department. The Beast of Bolam: 10 Years On

Posted by: Nick Redfern on December 20th, 2012

Over at my World of Whatever blog, I have a new post that addresses one of the stranger “British Bigfoot” controversies ever to have surfaced. The creature at the heart of the saga became known as the “Beast of Bolam” (after the location: Bolam Lake Country Park, which is located in Northumberland, England), and briefly provoked massive interest at a local level and within British Fortean and cryptozoological circles.

The Serpent of Gourock

Posted by: Nick Redfern on December 17th, 2012

Dr. Karl Shuker tells us… “The history of cryptozoology is embarrassingly well-supplied with classic cases of lost opportunities, and the long-running saga of the sea serpents has provided quite a number of these over the years. One of the most notable examples took place on the shores of Gourock, on Scotland’s River Clyde. This was […]
