According to a recent article in The Great Southern Star newspaper, two men reported possible Tasmanian Tiger (thylacine) sightings at the southern tip of Australia. I was curious about the location of these sightings so I mapped it out.

The fall season is just around the corner and that means time for some great cryptozoology-related events. The following is a list of conferences and festivals where I will be speaking.

The tale of the Bishopville Lizard Man has had its ups and downs over the years, ranging between credible eyewitness accounts to silly news reports.
The photo included in the recent ABC news article is one such low point, as it appears to be some sort of costume or miniature model rather than a real creature.

Though the cases are often entangled with urban legend, reported sightings of bipedal, goat-like creatures do enter the realms of cryptozoology. Dubbed “goatmen,” the beasts are described as either hairy humanoids with a goat-like head or horned men with fur and hooves, often bent on frightening those who encounter them. With an abundance of shocking tales involving these modern satyrs, author and paranormal researcher, J. Nathan Couch, sets out to explore the phenomenon in his new book, Goatman: Flesh or Folklore. Within the pages, Couch recounts famous cases – including that of the Pope Lick Monster, Maryland Goatman, and the Lake Worth Monster – along with a hoard of other hoof-walking horrors as he attempts to separate fact from folklore.

There’s been a horde of bigfoot films lately, of which I’ve seen many (and reviewed in Rue Morgue magazine). Most are terrible and a few are good. Many of the terrible ones try to exploit the fame/name of The Legend of Boggy Creek or imitate it, or flat out take footage and paste it into their “movie.” I recently got a sneak peak at 7 minutes worth of an upcoming bigfoot-themed flick called Something in the Woods.

The 2nd Annual Boggy Creek Festival is today Oct 25, 2014 in Fouke, Arkansas. Fouke is, of course, home of the infamous Legend of Boggy Creek. The purpose of the event is to bring together the local community and to share information about the sasquatch-like creature that has been sighted in the area for over a century. The festival features local arts and crafts, music, entertainment, food vendors, and presentations by local bigfoot researchers.
Camping at the Miller County Fairgrounds will be open starting Friday Oct 24, while the main event will happen Sat Oct 25 along Fouke’s main strip just off Highway 71 and Main Street. (Just come to Fouke and you can’t miss it!)
